Sophia

This site is dedicated to one of the most winning Italian Race Car ever made, a 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider named “Sophia”. After a legendary over 50 year run of racing on the West Coast, Sophia was brought out to the East Coast by her current owner Ed Boyajian.

Meet Sophia

“Like a fine wine Sophia just seems to get better with age and she just seems to get better year after year. Sophia was born at the Alfa Romeo factory in Milan Italy in 1957 for general street use but was converted into the racing machine we all know and love today in 1976. Since then she hasĀ  had over 200 races to her credit – winning 167 SCCA races and 19 vintage events. Added to that record are 21 SCCA Championships, 15 course records set at Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Riverside, Willow Springs, Portland and Seattle Raceways. It would be difficult to dispute Sophia’s claim to have the best win record for Italian race cars.”

Sophia's Redesign

After nearly 40 years of racing to her credit Al Leake retired Sophia from “Modern Racing” and redesigned her to compete in vintage racing. It was at this point Sophia took on the number 69 and the color black that she can be sporting today. There is much more to the story of Sophia that you can discover by pressing the History tab.

Al Leake

Al and Sophia were racing Legends on the East Coast and raced together for over 20 years. After going on a tear in "modern" racing and earning Driver of the year twice, Al retired Sophia and revitalized her for the vintage scene. Al passed away in 2008 but his memory lives on through Sophia.

Ed Boyajian

Ed Boyajin the current driver of Sophia. After falling in love with the West Coast Racing Scene, Ed knew that he wanted in on the action. Ed fist saw Sophia while out in California and he knew she was the car for him. Ed is also the driver responsible for introducing Sophia to the East Coast racing scene and boy are the fans happy to have her! Wanting to honor the rich history of Sophia he decided that a site was needed to share her history with the world. In 2023 he hired Thomas Kincaid to develop the site that you are looking at now.
